"competing with the giants" - tcdc/mudpie trend seminar
6/1/2009
The end of 2008 saw Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), Mudpie Ltd and mode...information Thailand team up to bring the Thai Textile and Fashion Industry its most informative Business Seminar to date.
Presented by Fiona Jenvey, CEO, Mudpie Ltd, the 'Competing With the Giants' Seminar was presented over three days and included a Spring Summer 2010 Trend Presentation, a Working with Trends workshop and in depth analysis and information on how to Maximize Your Business Potential in the Export Industry.
The three day event was well attended with over 100 attendees and was TCDC's most successful Business Seminar to date.
Fiona Jenvey's trend presentation, entitled 'Creative Utopia' saw Fiona share her insights on how and where trends are spotted, and how they can be used to create a design direction within a company. Using the Mudpie's predictions for Spring/Summer 2010 as an example, Fiona illustrated the process by which trends are researched and predicted at Mudpie.
The second full day of workshops included 'Effective use of Creative Resources' which looked at the resources available to the present day creative fashion and textile business and 'The Local Context' which explored the local context in Thailand, the fashion education in Thailand in comparison to Europe and categories of the Thai fashion market.
These talks were also followed by an interview with Mrs. Intira Tubvong (Aj. Aoi), Senior Designer at Jaspal Company Ltd for the past 27 years. Mrs. Tubvong revealed how a collection is created, the composition of a collection and the use of trend books and fashion shows as inspiration for a new collection.
This interesting forum was moderated by Ms. Vitawan Chunthone (Aj. Dao) of Thammasat University and Dr. Namfon Laistrooglai (Aj. Tikku ) of Silpakorn University
Part of the three day seminar included a group presentation assignment for the attendees. This encouraged participants to put their new found skills into practice, and included the use of Mudpie's professional trendbooks and online trend forecasting website, Mpdclick.com.
Fiona Jenvey commented, "The TCDC is the most impressive design resource that I have ever seen and beats any creative resource in either Europe or the USA. The depth of books, magazines and trend information cannot be matched by any other design centre. What is most impressive is that the TCDC is funded by the Thai government who are clearly committed to developing Thailand's creative economy."
Sridhar Ryalie, Advisor & Design Subject Specialist for the TCDC, did a fantastic job of organizing the 'Competing With the Giants' seminar, by inviting attendees whose businesses would really benefit from the information, and subsequently contribute further to Thailand's growing creative economy.
Sridhar Ryalie said Fiona Jenvey is "one of the best speakers we have ever had, this is really great and what people need to hear," impressive feedback indeed from an organization which has an extensive international speaker programme including Steve Martin on "The Future Face of Volvo" car corporation and Henrik Otto, Head of Global Design at Electrolux with "Trends in European kitchen and appliance design."
