Traditional fashion influenced by India – a big hit for SS11
30/4/2010
For all manufacturers from India - expect lots of interest from the UK, not for Western style tee shirts, but for traditional fashion influenced by India
For those of you that attended one of the Mudpie trend seminars for spring/summer 11 in Mumbai, Delhi, Tirupur or Bangalore you will know exactly how to re-interpret the Indian look for the UK/European market in our SS11 trend Enlighten.
In early May, Indian Designers will land in London for India Premier London Fashion week which is the first event of its kind and widely reported in the press. The event is intended to market Indian fashion to Western buyers from the UK and Europe. The timing of the event could not be more perfect as Western fashion weeks and celebrity events are full of Indian fashion. The look is not necessarily about the Sari, more the influence of the draped look, motifs and asymmetry associated with Indian fashion here in the West.
This high end show is aimed at buying for A/W 10/11 but it is SS11 when the trend will really hit the high street, when the Kaftan is expected to be a big hit as a key wardrobe staple.
Fiona Jenvey, CEO of Mudpie who presented its SS11 trends in India said “when some of the manufacturers I presented to saw we had a trend based around India they were really surprised. The fact is that the UK in particular is in love with Indian culture and style. It is only right that India's first overseas fashion week should be in London as this will be both successful and
popular.”
